THE BIRTH OF A UNIQUE CLUB
As a consequence of the Options For Change review in 1991, 211 Support Workshop was to be disbanded, the numbers being reduced to Platoon strength as part of the Corps Troops Workshop in Ashford, Kent.
The unit’s last annual training camp was to take place at the home of 23 Engineer Regiment ( Ripon ) in July 1992.
With the approval of the then Officer Commanding, Major Richard Lloyd, Brian Finland set about organising a re-union for some of 211’s more colourful / retired personnel, and former comrades who had moved on to other units.
The weekend was attended by 12 old friends --- accommodation was provided, rations acquired, tinnies cracked and old “war stories” exchanged.
Such was the success of the occasion that all agreed that the event should take place on an annual basis ---
The 211 Old Comrades Club had been bornWith an original membership base of 22, the club has expanded steadily to 41. As of May 2019 stands at 27. See Remembrance page.
